She was interested in music from her early days and was influenced by her parents. Though she was frequent in the congregation's choir, she loved the music of Queen and the legendary band has been one of her influences to take up music a career.

At the age of 17, Katy released her self-titled debut in 2001. It was a Christian album. She tried being a solo musician and also sung in a performing band. Her songs appeared in MTV's The Hills. Apart from that, another track also featured in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants in 2005.

Eventually, she was signed up by Virgin Records and her second album "One of the Boys" was released in 2008. It included tracks like "UR So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl". One of the tracks is seen in the comedy film Baby Mama. Apart from this musical world, Katy acted in an episode of the TV show "Wildfire" and in "The Young and The Restless" in 2008. She also participated in the Warped Tour of 2008 alongside Reel Big Fish and Gym Class Heroes.
